52 Lime Street will be the European headquarters of the global insurance business W. R. Berkley Corporation, and is being developed by its UK-based development arm. W. R. Berkley Corporation will occupy around 20% of the building, whilst the remainder will be available to lease.
The building has been designed by architects Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), and on completion in 2017, will be approximately 190m tall and will consist of 35 floors of offices above ground and mezzanine levels with an additional two basement and two roof plant levels. The main entrance to the building will be from a new public square on Lime Street.
Public space created by the development will include re-establishing Lime Street Square, which had been on the site for 400 years, but was lost in the 1940s. There will be approximately 11,000 sq ft of landscaped public space that will complement the existing precinct and include public seating and planting as well as opportunities for public art. Integrated into the ground floor of the building will be a traditional coffee house, echoing the 17th century origins of the specialist insurance markets at Lloyd's Coffee House.
We know that living or working next to a construction site can present some challenges and W. R. Berkley is committed to being a good neighbour through the process of demolition and construction of the new building. We will give as much notice as possible of any major works that will be carried out, and we will seek to mitigate the impacts on our neighbours whenever we can. A regular newsletter will keep our neighbours informed of the progress on the site and a point of contact will be established for any urgent or immediate enquiries. In the meantime, please email any questions to 52LimeStreet@wrbcd.com.
